Not Just Signs

Auslan is not just composed of dictionary equivalents of English words.

Lexical signs, for example those that can be found in the Auslan signbank (link located above), are just one aspect of sign language.

Equally important are:

Depicting signs (using your body to describe how a scene played out)
Pointing signs (used to identify characters)
Enactment (using your body to take on the personality of a person or object)

The above points are especially important for storytelling, and are used to add detail and context to a story.
